How has your life changed?

When I first walked into Centre Street Church more than 28 years ago, I didn't know it would change my life. I only knew I hadn't attended church for several years and was struggling both spiritually and personally.

I was drawn to the beauty of the sanctuary and the music, and the wording of the liturgy and hymns was familiar enough for me to feel comfortable. But it's the people and the fellowship that have kept me here.

Over the years, Centre Streeters and I have grown our faith together, laughed together, and prayed together. We've explored what it means to follow Jesus and to be his hands and feet in the world. We've celebrated, shed tears, and had hard conversations. We've worked as people of faith to serve not only Washington County but those in other parts of the country and the wider world. That spirit of love, welcome, and community is what Centre Street Church is all about.

That's why I've devoted so much of my time, energy, and heart to Centre Street. And through my nearly three decades here, Centre Street has supported me, too.

I have made my share of mistakes, but you—the people of Centre Street—have been gracious and forgiving. When I began taking an active role in our shared ministry, you encouraged me. When Cindy and I were finally able to legally marry, you surrounded us with love and made our wedding day a joyful celebration.

That kind of love changes a person. It has strengthened and nourished my faith and deepened my dedication to Centre Street and to every person who walks through its doors or tunes in on Zoom.

I still love the sanctuary, the music, and the familiar words. But here's the truth: I would not be here without this faith community's shared commitment to transformation through God's love. That's why I give back, and why I'm encouraging you to join me.

We all take care of the things we treasure. I hope that you, like me, treasure this church and its ministry. Centre Street has changed my life—and this Christmas, I invite you to think about how it has changed yours.

Your gift to this beloved church ensures that we can continue changing lives and doing God's work in the world. Thank you, dear friends, and Merry Christmas!

With gratitude and blessings,
Laurel Robinson, deacon
