Lent Services
On the first Sunday in Lent, we heard from Bonnie Beiswenger and Laura Pierce about how to handle the fact that so much is out of our control. What if we could let go of needing everything "just so" and instead learn to dance with the unfolding of that which is not ours to control?
On the second Sunday in Lent, Cindy Huggins and Carolyn Mathews talked about how our everyday, ordinary lives can be holy. What are the temptations that catch your ear, singing out promises that your life should be more special than it is? What if ordinary life is already holy? On the third Sunday in Lent, Christina LaBrosse and Sarina Brooks shared their perspectives on how lots of things can be good medicine. Lying fallow and getting fertilized with laughter and tears at the crappy stuff of life can help heal what ails us. On the fourth Sunday in Lent, Harper Dean and Laurel Robinson talked about how we often believe we are the problem. Life is a big old risk, though, and facing whatever each day holds is not only good enough, but worthy of love and grace On the fifth Sunday in Lent, Ellen Farnsworth and Ken Warner offered their thoughts on how, as much as we'd like to think otherwise, we all are really quite fragile. But what if we stopped denying the limited nature of our lives and breathed in deeply the fragrance of vulnerability? On the sixth Sunday in Lent—Palm Sunday—Ed Mosel and Lynne Gibson discussed how each of us is actually a group project. So get on the donkey when you need to and let people lay down their cloaks and make some noise for you. 'Cause you know you'll do it for them, too, when the chips are down. |
